Adult Indoor Rowing Program
The Adult Indoor Rowing Program provides a variety of workouts that help
develop the basic muscles used in rowing. It also provides a fitness plan
that helps participants get and stay in shape. The program begins with a one hour
session to ensure that each participant knows how to use an ergometer
(rowing machine - see animation at right).
Classes run from November through March when weather limits outdoor rowing.
The sessions are held - thanks to the generosity of the UD men's and women's
programs - at the UD Indoor Rowing Facility on Brown Street and K street
near Stewart Street. Fees are to be paid at the beginning of each month and
there are certain times during the holidays when classes are not in session.

Objectives
Although a number of benefits accrue from the program, such as physical conditioning and camaraderie,
the primary goal of the program (and the participants) is the preparation for on-the-water-training.
Participants in the DBC Indoor program train two or three times a week to stay in shape for rowing, to
advance their conditioning to be more effective rowers on the water, and to develop a more competitive
Dayton Boat Club Masters Women's Program.
A future goal of the DBC is a boathouse facility where members will have access to train individually.
That capability is not available now: potential participants should understand that individual access
to the facility, or individual workouts are not provided. Access is provided only through the program
coaches.
A motivated rower with the available time can also be provided an additional conditioning schedule, so
that she can complete alternative workouts on days that rowing sessions are not scheduled.
Annually, an indoor regatta is held in Cincinnati (Jan 30 2005 this winter) that many DBC members attend.
Coached Sessions
The adult indoor rowing sessions are directed by Trish Miles, a former
National Champion, Head of the Charles champion, and also 3rd place finisher at the World Indoor Rowing
Championships. Trish has developed an effective training schedule for all the participants, and will
coach many sessions herself. She has selected some very capable assistants in Collin Delaney, Mitch
Vossler and Katie Lesko , who will also be coaching under Trish's direction.
Schedule
A flexible schedule has been developed to accommodate nearly all of the interested adult DBC members.
The schedule for 2004, is:
Mondays - 8am and 9am
Tuesdays - 8am and 9am
Thursdays - 8am and 9am
Developing physical capacity on the ergometer within a 2 or 3-day a week schedule requires specific workouts
(explained in a separate handout). Additional activity such as running and weightlifting will help
development; Trish can provide that information for interested participants.
Cost
Because the Indoor Sessions are often an introduction to the sport, the DBC offers the program to
non-members interested in the sport. The price to non-members is $5/session, while members pay
$3/session. If you would like to join the DBC, please fill out our membership application form and send it together with the
USRowing Liability Waiver
(required) to our membership director (address on form).
Through our agreement with UD, proceeds from the program are set aside for capital improvements that benefit
UD and the rowing community in general. Past proceeds have been used to buy additional ergometers.
