Masters Program

DBC Masters Women Our Masters Rowing Program is a great way to meet other women (age 27 and up) who enjoy teamwork and a challenging workout. (All you need to do is take a quick look at these pictures to see that we have fun!)

We begin by teaching you how to row on indoor rowing machines, known as ergometers or "ergs," for short. This is a great way for you to learn the important basics of the sport and get a no-impact, full-body workout! Classes start in October and go until the end of April.

After the indoor season is over, the Dayton Boat Club offers you three options:

  1. Sculling lessons in singles,
  2. Team rowing, or
  3. Waiting for next October to get back in the erg room... :-)

Sculling Program

Sculling is rowing with 2 oars. Through a series of 10 sessions, you will learn to row in a single. After making it through the coached sessions, you can continue rowing in singles with friends or supervised by coaches. DBC Masters Women

Team Rowing Program

This is rowing in an 8-oared boat with one oar each (called sweep rowing). The team rowing involves practices 3 times a week and 2 or 3 races over the spring, summer and early fall. We do not practice during the entire summer - as we block out times for vacation. (For an example of how we schedule our practices, here is the summer practice schedule for our Women's Masters Program in 2005.)

Cost and Membership

The indoor rowing is $5 per class. Payment should be made at the beginning of every month and pre-paid workout cards are available for purchase at the first lesson.

The current indoor rowing class schedule is the following.

    Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00 am
    Wednesday   5:45 to  6:45 am
    Thursday 9:00 to 10:00 am
    Friday 5:45 to  6:45 am

Please note that this schedule is subject to change according to class attendance.

Once you have had a chance to see if this is something you'd like to continue, you can join the Dayton Boat Club to get access to our on-the-water programs. Depending on what you decide, there will be a program fee in addition to your membership fee.

We are very proud of the competitive edge that we have as a result of our hard work and devotion to the sport. It's never too late to join this winning team - we range from beginners to experts. If you're interested in joining us or in learning more about our program, please contact our Membership Director or our Women's Masters Team Coach today!

We look forward to seeing you!
